Homemade Oat Flour

I really enjoy knowing where my food comes from and if I can, I will make as many basic ingredients at home as I can.  I do this partially out of love, but also because it’s usually cheaper.  A 500 gram bag of organic oat flour can run about $8 at the store.  Doing it myself costs me about $1.

So – as I promised at the bottom of the Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal Muffins recipe – here is my simple method of making oat flour at home.

Homemade Oat Flour

500g (1lb) large flake oats

Put the oats into a large well dried blender.  Pulse the oats until they reach your desired consistency.  (I tend to leave them with a few larger bits, about the size of the bran bits in whole wheat flour).

Store in an airtight container.
