My new website is up! I warn you in advance it’s still a work in progress (my subscribe button doesn’t seem to be working properly – but I’m getting help for that!).
Take a look! www.morethanaspoonful.com
Great news!! I’m in the process of transferring this blog onto its own domain. Once it’s up and running I’ll post a link here so you can keep following along.
I appreciate all of the support you’ve given me!
We’ve had so much rain lately that I can’t believe that it’s just a few short days until summer officially begins. Normally at this point we would’ve picnicked by the river, on a tiny little red blanket at least a few times, but that hasn’t happened just yet. Joey’s been working most weekends and when he’s not, it’s because it’s raining. All of that extra work just so I can comfortably head west to see my nephews and niece at the end of the summer. It’s so sweet it makes me want to cry – and then I think about the four little faces that will giggle and say Auntie, my brother and his poop jokes, my sister and her infectious laugh – and I do cry. I miss them with all of my heart.
My weekdays are always hectic – filled with working, writing, laundry (there’s always laundry!!), taking care of my three cats, and cooking. No matter how prepared I am, there are some days when dinner rolls around and I just don’t want to cook.
I really enjoy knowing where my food comes from and if I can, I will make as many basic ingredients at home as I can. I do this partially out of love, but also because it’s usually cheaper. A 500 gram bag of organic oat flour can run about $8 at the store. Doing it myself costs me about $1.
Oh how bittersweet you are Sunday morning. You let me know that I only have one relaxing day left before I have to wake up to the alarm clock tomorrow. You also let me know that I have a whole morning that I can spend watching cheesy old movies and taking the time to relax and make a good breakfast.
It was my niece’s sixth birthday this week and for the first time in her life, she didn’t have a cake made by Auntie on her birthday. And she won’t have one for her birthday party either. It’s the little things like this that make me miss my family even more.
Every Friday from May until October there’s a hidden gem tucked away in the back of the First United Church in Waterloo. Bailey’s Local Foods. I found Bailey’s when I was searching for a CSA to get my veggies from this year. And I’m so glad I found it.
I’m a blogging newbie. I’ll admit it. I’m not ashamed. But I started this to share recipes with my family and I’ve found a much bigger audience. I’m just realizing now that I should probably adjust the lighting on my photos, and that it doesn’t take up more space to have the photos be full sized as opposed to the small ones I used to use. It’s a definitely been a learning experience for me.
